Growing up in Zimbabwe, Derek developed a love for Africa and its wilderness, which led him to become a committed environmentalist with a passion for creating sustainable projects that positively impact the planet. Over the years, he has worked on many groundbreaking and innovative developments across South Africa, Costa Rica, Seychelles, Comoros Islands, Tanzania, and more.

Today, Derek offers his experience in sustainable planning, urban design, conservation and development planning, regenerative system design, and more to our clients. If you want to bring a project to life that is in complete harmony with the needs of the planet and that enhances today’s communities and the future, he’s the guy that can make it happen.

Notable Projects

  • Specialist consultant to the East Coast Economic Region of Malaysia to assist in tourism development master planning for a 35km stretch of coastline on the South China Sea.
  • Advised the Government of Seychelles regarding a development control strategy for the islands, and worked on an urban design, landscape and heritage strategy for the capital city of Victoria.
  • Created a development strategy for a new town on a large area (3,500 Ha) on the north coast of the Comoros main Island; incorporating a sustainable agricultural network, a range of residential opportunities, and tourism use, set within an extensive natural systems web.
  • Worked on the ‘Capricorn’ Science and Technology Park in Cape Town. A large industrial estate developed around a created wetland feature.
  • Currently involved in the master planning and detailed urban design for a large (600 Ha)mixed use urban development in Lusaka, Zambia, for NAPSA (the State Pension Fund), as well as development planning for other exclusive residential estates in the city such as ‘Lion’s Hill Estate’.
