The Founding of YouTube A Short History

In the early 2000s, uploading and sending video files was slow, formats were inconsistent, and most websites weren’t built for smooth playback. Who Founded YouTube?

YouTube was founded by three former PayPal employees: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. They combined product thinking, engineering skills, and a clear user goal: create a website where anyone could upload a video and watch it instantly in a browser.

At the time, sharing video often meant emailing huge files or dealing with complicated players and downloads. YouTube made video:

  • Created a development strategy for a new town on a large area (3,500 Ha) on the north coast of the Comoros main Island; incorporating a sustainable agricultural network, a range of residential opportunities, and tourism use, set within an extensive natural systems web.
  • Worked on the ‘Capricorn’ Science and Technology Park in Cape Town. A large industrial estate developed around a created wetland feature.
  • Currently involved in the master planning and detailed urban design for a large (600 Ha)mixed use urban development in Lusaka, Zambia, for NAPSA (the State Pension Fund), as well as development planning for other exclusive residential estates in the city such as ‘Lion’s Hill Estate’.
